Premium Mexican pantry · Texas

The spark of the Mexican kitchen.

OCOTE brings small-batch Mexican pantry staples to Texas. We start with fire-roasted habanero chili oil and organic cold-pressed avocado oil.

Now meeting retailers, restaurants and distributors for our first shipments.

Our name

o·co·te

  1. Resin-rich heartwood from Mexican pines. One splinter catches a single match and lights the fire for the whole kitchen.
  2. A Mexican pantry brand that begins at that fire.

From Nahuatl ocotl.

In kitchens across Mexico, cooking still starts with ocote. A sliver goes under the firewood, the flame takes, and soon the comal is hot. We named our brand after that first spark. OCOTE brings the flavors of our home in Michoacán to Texas, made by Mexican producers and chosen by our family.

The pantry

Two essentials to start

We're launching with two products Mexican cooks reach for every day. Both are made in Mexico by producers we know and imported to Texas by our own company.

Habanero Chili Oil

Fire-roasted habanero in oil

Habanero chiles are charred on the comal until the skins blister, then cooked slowly in oil with garlic until crisp. The crunchy chile settles to the bottom of the jar and the oil turns a deep orange. Expect fruity heat and a roasted depth in every spoonful.

Heat Hot Habaneros measure 100,000 to 350,000 Scoville heat units.

In the kitchen

From the comal to your table

Simple ingredients, cooked the way they are cooked at home in Mexico.

How we work

What you can count on

Producers we know

Every OCOTE product comes from a Mexican producer we have visited, working in a facility registered with the U.S. FDA.

Short ingredient lists

Chiles, garlic and oil. Avocados and nothing else. If we wouldn't cook with it at home, it doesn't go in the jar.

Tested, lot by lot

Researchers at UC Davis have found that much of the avocado oil sold in U.S. stores is stale or mixed with cheaper oils. An independent lab tests every lot of ours before it ships.

Imported by us

Pure Origin LLC, our Texas company, is the importer of record. We manage FDA prior notice, FSVP and USMCA origin paperwork for every shipment.

Rooted in Michoacán, growing in Texas

We're Daniel and Mariana, a family from Morelia, Michoacán, the avocado capital of the world. OCOTE is how we share the flavors we grew up with. We choose and visit every producer, and our Texas company imports every product.
